Meet Nick Edgar, a NCOTY 2020 Finalist

As a proud sponsor of National Chef of the Year, we wanted to do something to help the chefs on their journey. So... we decided to give all the semi-finalists a FREE pair of their WearerTech shoe of choice to help them through the hours of cooking and pressure...

We've caught up with one of the finalists, Nick Edgar about his thoughts about the competition as well as how he's finding his WearerTech shoes. Nick is a chef of 23 years, and having worked at some of the best restaurants in the world he currently works at the Ryebeck Hotel in Windermere. His cooking style is all about quality ingredients, cooked with love and an emphasis on texture and acidity. See what he has to say...

Feelings ahead of the final...

I'm really looking forward to the final in October, although I'm not really thinking about it too much at the moment with the hotel being in the middle of a busy summer period.

Top tips for managing the pressure...

Having already been in the competition and making the final five years ago, I already knew what the pressure was like so this year I've decided to do things differently. I'm a lot more relaxed about it this year and it really helps... confident in what I'm doing and although I was nervous it wasn't to a point of not sleeping or making myself sick. This year I've really enjoyed the process... the run-up to the semi-final and most importantly on the day I loved cooking for 2 hours under pressure.

Favourite WearerTech shoe...

I really like the Energise style, they're really lightweight and well-supported... it almost feels like you are not wearing shoes at all.

Reducing pain...

Being someone that has always had injuries with joints and ligaments, I have to say since I've been wearing my new shoes they've really helped reduce the amount of pain I feel all day. I often visit a sports injury specialist for treatment and for the first time he was actually impressed with my choice of work footwear.

Give them a go...

Give them a try, they take a little getting used to but really help you if you suffer from pain like I do.
